Sustainable Fashion is the movement we all need to take for ourselves and our earth’s future. By using what we already have to create beautiful ecological fashion pieces. Upcycling is the safest and most effective way to produce less waste and a small as possible negative footprint 👣 on the earth. Did you know that Globally we produce 13 million tons of textile waste each year? 95% of which could be reused or recycled, that’s insane. I care deeply about the fashion industry and to know that it is one of the most polluting industries is disheartening. We as a community can do better, so many people are aware of this problem and are fighting to enforce the solution. What is this solution you might ask? ’Thrift Flip’ as straight forward as it sounds, by using what you already have and turning it into something you would get more use out of. May that be going to a thrift/charity shop to repurpose discarded items and make them your own, or simply using what’s in the back of your wardrobe. Either way, you can make something unique without harming the environment, I can not stress enough how important it is to use what you have. We sometimes take our earth for granted when we should be looking out for its health and future by minimising our intake on the fashion industry.
I’m not saying only buy from thrift/charity shops however, there are a myriad of small to large clothing brands that thrift flip so check them out instead for a change. If you are familiar with depop browse away but please stay away from fast fashion. Shopping on websites at such cheap prices for cheap fabric, only to be worn a couple of times and thrown away. This forms a key part of the toxic system of overproduction and consumption that has made fashion one of the largest polluters in the world.
If you are ready for a change in the fashion industry and earth start to thrift flip and be the change you want to see. If you are struggling on where to start search #thriftflip on TikTok or Pinterest for guidance and inspiration. By doing this you can reconstruct a top, skirt or paint on jeans even bleach them; patchwork thrift flips are very popular also. There are endless opportunities and you can truly make something beautiful.
