With the history of corsets leading back to the 16th century, they have a controversial background that is said to have deformed the female body although not all women agree and there is no write answer to each experience some woman have even found them as a positive. Corsets have never been out of style and some men and woman use them to this day. ’In the ’70s, Vivienne Westwood began using corsets as part of her historicist punk aesthetic; Westwood imagined her corsets as empowering women rather than binding them’ -Maude Bass-Krueger Vogue 2019

The evolution of Corsets has changed over time from once being a strict undergarment to structure the human body for a greater shape of poise and better posture. To now a street style that is not to be worn as an undergarment but to be worn as the garment itself. As the form of a top constructed in a way not to deform the torso yet show off natural curves of the upper body, to highlight and accentuate the beauty of whom wears it. I love this trend and think anyone can feel beautiful in a corset-style top without feeling restrained. Now that corsets are existing to accentuate our figure naturally we can have fun and make a statement. So wear a corset top with your favourite pair of jeans or an eye-catching skirt, break boundaries wear what you feel confident in. This retired idea of female oppression has to go so why not be daring?
